Plagiarism Policy

Ekobistek is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. Plagiarism in any form is considered unacceptable. All authors submitting manuscripts to Ekobistek must ensure that their work is original, properly acknowledges the contributions of other researchers, and complies with accepted standards of academic writing and publication ethics.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, data, research findings, images, tables, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment of the original source. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text or other materials from another source without proper citation or acknowledgment.

  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining phrases, sentences, or ideas from multiple sources without appropriate attribution, even when some words have been modified.

  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another author's ideas or arguments without citing the original source.

  • Data and Image Plagiarism: Using data, figures, tables, images, or other research materials without proper acknowledgment or permission where required.

  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without proper citation or disclosure.

  • Duplicate or Redundant Publication: Republishing substantially similar research or submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals without appropriate disclosure and editorial authorization.

2. Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Ekobistek may be screened for originality using plagiarism-detection or text-similarity software as part of the editorial assessment process.

The editorial team evaluates similarity reports carefully, considering the nature, context, source, and extent of the matched text. Similarity scores alone do not establish plagiarism, as legitimate quotations, references, standard terminology, and commonly used expressions may also generate matches.

Manuscripts containing substantial unattributed material or other evidence of plagiarism may be returned to the authors for clarification or revision, rejected, or subjected to further investigation, depending on the severity of the findings.

3. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to Ekobistek are responsible for ensuring that:

  1. Their manuscripts represent original scholarly work.

  2. All sources, ideas, quotations, data, and materials obtained from other works are properly cited and acknowledged.

  3. Direct quotations are clearly identified and accompanied by appropriate references.

  4. Previously published material is appropriately cited, disclosed, and used with permission when required.

  5. Any reuse of their own previously published work is transparent and does not constitute redundant publication.

  6. The manuscript has not been published previously in substantially the same form and is not under consideration by another journal at the same time.

Authors must also cooperate with the editorial team in providing explanations or supporting documentation if concerns regarding originality or publication ethics arise.

4. Actions in Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is suspected or identified, Ekobistek will assess the available evidence and provide the relevant authors with an opportunity to respond when appropriate.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Request clarification, additional documentation, or appropriate revisions from the authors.

  • Reject the manuscript before publication.

  • Suspend the editorial process while an investigation is conducted.

  • Notify the authors' affiliated institutions or other relevant parties when warranted.

  • Publish a correction, expression of concern, or retraction if the article has already been published and the circumstances justify such action.

  • Take additional measures consistent with applicable publication ethics guidelines.

All cases will be handled fairly and confidentially, with due consideration given to the evidence, the authors' explanations, and the integrity of the scholarly record.

5. Handling Published Articles

If credible evidence of plagiarism is identified after publication, Ekobistek will investigate the matter in accordance with its publication ethics procedures.

Where plagiarism or serious publication misconduct is established, the journal may issue a correction, publish an expression of concern, or retract the article, depending on the seriousness of the violation and its impact on the reliability and integrity of the published work.

Any corrective action will be communicated transparently to readers and relevant parties, as appropriate.

6. Commitment to Publication Ethics

Ekobistek upholds the principles of honesty, transparency, accountability, and originality in scholarly communication. The journal is committed to handling allegations of plagiarism responsibly and consistently, with reference to the relevant guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

By submitting a manuscript to Ekobistek, authors acknowledge their responsibility to uphold these principles and confirm that their work meets the journal's standards of academic integrity.
